The Expat Insider 2019 survey is published by InterNations, the worlds largest expat community with 3.6 million members. The survey evaluates expats’ satisfaction with the quality of life, the ease of settling in, working life, personal finance, cost of living and family life in their host countries. A total of 64 destinations are included.

Great career prospects

Once again, Luxembourg is part of the top-ranked countries and progresses from 15th position in 2018 to 12th in 2019. Expats in Luxembourg are particularly happy with their great career prospects and the high job security. The country comes in third in the Working Abroad Index, gaining 18 ranks in the Career Prospects & Satisfaction subcategory (from 26th to 8th). 74% of expats are satisfied with their job overall.

Luxembourg also ranks first in the Economy & Job Security subcategory for the fifth year in a row. 96% has a positive view on the state of the economy, compared to 63% globally. This means that Luxembourg leads the ranking for this factor for the fourth year in a row.

High quality of life, high income

Luxembourg also does very well in terms of quality of life and ranks 12th. However, expats consider it relatively difficult to settle in and find local friends.

The worst ranking considers the cost of living, where Luxembourg is placed 59th. At the same time, 79% of working respondents also say that their income is higher than it would be back home. For 44%, it is even a lot higher.
