With over 60,000 visitors and 21,600 exhibitors, Transport Logistic is the world’s leading trade fair for logistics, mobility, IT and supply chain management. Two Luxembourg booths, jointly organised by the Ministry of the Economy and the Chamber of Commerce, presented key logistics service providers and internationally recognised players offering related services.

Air cargo services rewarded

The first booth put the spotlight on Luxembourg’s strong air cargo industry. Companies present included Cargolux, Lux-Airport, Luxair Cargo, Arthur Welter, Dupont, EDifly and Global Airlift solutions. The quality of the services provided was officially recognised as Cargolux received the “Air Cargo Industry Customer Care Award 2019”, handed out by industry newspaper Air Cargo Week while the fair was taking place.

Global Airlift Solutions, which offers customised air transport solutions for emergency logistics, took the opportunity during the fair to announce the acquisition of its first aircraft. This plane, a Pilatus-PC-12-Flotte, has a payload of around one tonne.

Strengthening multimodal capacities

Luxembourg stand at Transport Logistic 2019The second national booth presented the multimodal capacities with exhibitors including CFL multimodal, the port of Mertert together with the Lorang Group, transport and logistics solution provider Transalliance and Faymonville, a leading manufacturer of special trailers and semi-trailers for the special transport industry. The booth also hosted the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST).

In addition, several other Luxembourg-based logistics companies, such as CHAMP Cargosystems, Clear Logistics, Logistics4Pharma and Wallenborn, were present in Munich with their own booths.

The rail/road terminal in Bettembourg, operated by CFL multimodal, is one of Luxembourg’s key multimodal hubs. During the fair, CFL multimodal announced the launch of a new rail motorway connection to Swarzędz in Poland, as well as an increase in the weekly roundtrips of the intermodal shuttle between Luxembourg and Trieste.

Focus on digitalisation and innovative technologies

Luxembourg stand at Transport Logistic 2019Digitalisation and new innovative technologies was the key topic of the fair with numerous conferences addressing related opportunities and challenges for different transportation modes as well as for warehousing operations.

The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) presented an R&D project, carried out in collaboration with the company Polygone, which shows the innovative character of the logistics sector in Luxembourg. The project aims at optimising waste collection by building an intelligent waste collection platform based on optimisation processes combining business, client and operational criteria. Using data provided by sensor technology directly integrated into waste containers, the platform will be able to track the status of decentralised waste collection stations, in particular regarding how full the various containers are, and determine what logistics operations are needed at the most relevant point in time.
