Coached and motivated by their “captain” Philippe Genot, who is also manager of the Luxembourg Wood Cluster, more than 40 employees took part in the 2021 edition of the major initiative ” Relais pour la Vie “, organised by the Cancer Foundation on the last weekend of March.
“Because innovation and research are essential, because cancer is not confined and because hope must continue to shine, it seemed obvious to us that Luxinnovation should support this great initiative,” explains Philippe Genot.
Adapted to the current health context (no laps at the Coque during 24 hours), the 2021 edition of the “Relais pour la Vie” involved participants in different activities where good humour and the will to give their best gave wings to everyone. This was also made possible by the efficient supervision of each of the different activities by a member of the dedicated organisation group within Luxinnovation.
Thus, more than 30 hours of walking were accumulated by the walkers who took part in a historic hike in the heart of the city; more than 100 km covered in total by the “LXI runners”, and more than 120 km by bike, spinning and home biking (at night).
Fundraising
And for the most extreme ones, 10 days of online Cross Fit, with an average of 7 participants per session, and some impressive numbers in the end: 4,200 squats, 105 minutes of planks, 700 burpees, 2,800 sit-ups, and 1,400 lunges combined! We don’t count the drops of sweat, offered for free…
In addition to all this, there were a few yoga sessions providing some well-deserved relaxation, and dog walking.
“From a small idea on a Sunday evening, a real surge of solidarity was born,” says Philippe Genot happily. “For us, it was also a real breath of fresh air in these difficult times. Doing sports in small groups, having fun and doing it all for a good cause obviously also does a lot of good psychologically.”
This very sporty programme was also accompanied by a fundraising campaign to support the Cancer Foundation. “The first objective of €2,000 was reached in barely a week. In the end, we gathered more than 45 donors and collected more than €4,000 in donations. Thank you all!”
