‘Our new site at Findel demonstrates our desire to develop and strengthen our logistics, which is part of our current strategy’, Claude Strasser explained. ‘It is essential for us to build a pillar complementary to our postal activity, the sustainability of which is threatened by the continuing decline in the volume of mail’, added Hjoerdis Stahl.
In order to implement the storage activities, a suitable facility was found in Luxembourg-Findel. It is a strategic location in Luxembourg due to its excellent connections with road and air infrastructure and POST Luxembourg has leased more than 6,000 m² in the former Cargocenter for its logistics activities. This is a temporary solution until the new facility for all distribution activities is available.
This logistics operation, which includes dispatching parcels from Asia to Europe, was launched in 2017 under the name ‘International Parcel Logistics’ and has seen steady growth. ‘With this logistics service, which started in March last year with around 2,000 parcels per day, the volume of parcels from Asia has grown steadily and has now reached around 18,000 parcels per day.’
Efforts to develop logistics and customs clearance activities resulted in a turnover of 3 million euros in 2017. For 2018, we forecast a turnover of around 10 million euros.
In the meantime, a second activity has been launched, namely ‘E-Commerce fulfillment services’, whereby POST Luxembourg offers a storage and Pick&Pack service for e-commerce businesses.
